Go-Karts - where it all began.....

Who would've known back in 2005 when Doug Sr found a little sign on the side of one of our local Maryland roads saying "Sandy Hook Speedway- Racing today" where we would all be sitting now. Doug Jr started out in the kid kart division that year and Trent followed the year after. The Barnes family had always loved NASCAR and they were the ultimate Dale Sr and Dale Jr. fans. The boys would ride around in their battery operated cars and run "races" and do their interviews in victory lane in the back yard of their Whiteford, Maryland home. They put many miles on their vehicles hauling their trailer with all the go-kart equipment for many years.  Thanks as always to Dave & Sue Koehler of GT Machine for their awesome motors and all their support along the way. Thanks also to Dennis and Janet Headley who stepped up and took over running the track when Dave & Sue moved south. Racing became a second family and the friends they made along the way have become life-long ones. Doug and Trent still go up to their local track and help out the younger drivers and it still feels like a second home to them.
